ENO Programme started co-operation with UNEP

ENO-Environment Online© signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNEP today, 15th of February 2005. This agreement was initiated by the executive director Mr Klaus Toepfer and is based on the former co-operation between partners. This two-year agreement is special because it is the first one with UNEP and basic education.

According the agreement, ENO and UNEP are interested in establishing a co-operation to jointly engage schools in environmental activities in their communities. Some of these activities are Plant For The Planet campaign and events like World Environment Day, Clean Up the World Day and World Water Day. Partners act as independent units. UNEP will invite ENO to send its representatives to UNEP Tunza conferences and to share their experience with participants. UNEP will allocate a number of places for ENO's schools representatives in the Tunza conferences for children and youth.

ENO Programme is administrated by the city of Joensuu, UNEP already has co-operation in Joensuu because the University of Joensuu became UNEP?s partner university in May 2003.
